How to Build Your Audience & Brand Identity

In 10 Simple Steps

Personal branding is about knowing yourself, and sharing this with your audience. There seems to be a lot of confusion when it comes to brand building. These 10 steps will help give you clarity.

1) Know Yourself

Before you start building your personal brand, it’s important to define who you are. Quickly ask yourself these questions.

  • What are your strengths?

  • What are your skills?

  • What are your talents?

  • What are your values?

We all have a few things that other people ask us for help with, or advice on. This usually is our unique advantage or skillset. It’s important to sit down with yourself for a few minutes to get some clarity. Just give it 5 minutes, start simple here.

2) Define Your Audience

Who is it you are serving? Get specific here, ask yourself these questions:

  • What is your audience’s dream outcome?

  • What are their pain points? (these could be similar to your own)

When you know who your people are, you know what to share.

3) Share Your Story

Your story is your superpower, and everyone loves a good story.

Share your growth with your audience, and they will grow with you.

4) Create Consistently

Persistance > Perfection

Just show up and share daily, no one wants to learn from someone who thinks they are perfect. They want to read through your struggles and see your growth. Take them along your journey daily.

5) Engage Genuinely

Stop the AI replies! I don’t know of anyone who enjoys having a robot in their comment section. When replying, you should try and build off what the original post is saying. Add your own unique perspective to their idea.

Also, make sure your are replying to anyone that comments on your posts, this one is obvious but I notice a lot of folks miss this.

6) Offer Real Value

As you grow to know yourself and your audience, start writing about the solutions that have helped your in your niche or area of expertise.

Even if you are 1 step ahead of your followers, share the step for free. As you are building authority, it’s crucial to share what worked for you along the way.

7) Leverage Multiple Channels

You should be testing content ideas using short form posts constantly. Post 3-5 times a day and take note of what is attracting your ideal audience. You can then turn this top performing posts into long form threads, or even newsletters.

8) Show Your Expertise

Consistent action will position you as a leader within your area of focus. Yes, this will take a while but just keep moving.

Talk about how your solutions or frameworks will lead to your audience’s desired outcome.

9) Keep Evolving

Feedback is gold. Listen to your audience, test new ideas and concepts, keep refining your strategy.

Remember your brand is a work in progress, share this progress as part of your story and evolution.

10) Stay True To You

Don’t chase trends, they come and go.

There’s a big difference between building an audience, and building YOUR audience.

Building your personal brand will not happen overnight, the whole point is to share how you are growing with your audience.
